IFT was appointed by Anderson Floor Warming & Renewables to install flooring as part of the £10.5 million, three-year refurbishment programme at Bunnahabhain, which aims to transform the Islay distillery and visitor centre into a world-class whisky destination.
IFT installed 140m² of Mapei Topcem screed onto an underfloor heating system at the new visitor centre at the Bunnahabhain Distillery on Islay. Following this, Mapei Ultratop Industrial and Mapefloor sealant were added to provide a finished floor.
This job was a huge logistical challenge for the IFT team as there is no suitable sand source on the island. To combat this we used Buildbase on Islay who brought in bulk bags of washed concrete sand from the mainland at our request and the Topcem was taken across by Hebrides Haulage. This was all arranged during IFT pre-start visits to the island, working together with local labour working on the site asking them about sand sources.
